We hear about solar energy on an nearly daily basis. But are we hearing real solar energy facts or is there are lot of talk filled with opinions which cannot be backed up with hard evidence. Since this is becoming a hot political topic there are many solar energy facts out there which are not quite as substantiated as we are lead to believe.

One of the reasons why solar power is so topical is because it is a renewable energy source. This means that, unlike energy which is dug or drilled out of the ground, it is not going to run out.

Another important solar energy fact is that it is a clean energy source. This signifies that it does not increase levels of hazardous greenhouse gases and it does not produce any other emissions which are currently considered to be dangerous to our ecosystem.

Solar energy facts concerning its versatility are a bit vaguer. This is due to the current problems with efficiency and storage. If you are considering converting to solar power completely you may want a solar powered car. This is possible, but you will probably find that you are going to have a difference in performance levels between your traditionally fuelled car and your solar powered. So it is true that you can have a solar powered car, but there will be sacrifices.

So if you wanted to go green and have everything solar powered, would it be possible? Well, one important solar energy fact is that manufacturers are cashing in on the idea and they are pricing solar energy powered products much higher than traditionally powered similar products.

So is solar energy cheaper to run? This is a maze of information and extracting the solar energy facts of this one is not easy. Once solar energy systems are installed they are cheaper to run.The sun will shine gratis and every time she shows her face you will be gaining power to either use, store or sell. In some areas you can sell your excess solar power back to your local energy supplier. This all sounds very good, but there are a lot of upfront costs which you will have to recoup before you are making a profit, so don’t get too excited too quickly. The only way to truly establish if you could run solar powered without breaking the bank is to get one of the solar powered companies to come and do a home assessment. During this they will advise you of the work which would be required to convert your home to solar power. This should include the cost parts and the amount of energy you are likely to be able to produce. Most companies will be able to review your current energy use and be able to tell you if you will be short and need to top up with traditional sources of energy or if you will be selling back to the local supplier.

One solar energy fact you can be sure of is that solar energy is here to stay. We just don’t know what percentage of our energy usage will be solar and how quickly this change over will happen.

Glass is everywhere but not all of it is recyclable. Glass is a sustainable material that is an very good packaging material. Using glass to package food and beverages gives them a longer shelf life than those packaged in plastic and many people think the food or drink tastes better in glass than plastic. Glass prevents contaminants from entering food and beverage products, because it is an excellent barrier. Glass doesn’t give off chemicals the way that plastics do to the contents that are packaged inside.

Because of its density and weight glass takes up a large amount of space in the landfills when we do not employ glass recycling in our everyday lives. Unfortunately many people still don’t recycle glass; they throw away bottles and jars that could go to a glass recycling plant. For every ton of glass that is recycled the environment is spared 693 pounds of carbon dioxide from being released.

The process of recycling glass is quite involved. It has to be evaluated for quality before it can be used. Any traces of bacteria or remains such as debris and food contents are removed from the glass. The glass also has to be sorted based on the color so it can be very time consuming. Clear glass is used to make jars and bottles for beverages and needs to be separated from green glass and green glass needs to be separated from brown glass. Green glass is used to bottle wine and some beer bottles, while brown glass is used to bottle beer.

When glass goes to a glass recycling plant it is crushed into small pieces so that it can be remelted to make more bottles and jars, at this point the recycled glass is called cullet. Once that is done there are molds that the mixture is poured into to form new of glass products.

Not all glass is recyclable, because they have impurities in them. Some examples of impure glass are light bulbs, window panes and glass cookware. Window panes are manufactured by mixing the glass with ceramics to make the glass strong. Make sure you check with your local recycling plant to see what they will accept and if they do the sorting or you have to sort the glass by color yourself.

Some manufacturers work with with glass recycling companies. They buy the glass containers for their products from them after they have been molded into certain types of containers. This is less expensive for the company than buying glass to make them on their own. It also shows consumers that they are dedicated to recycling and to cutting down waste in the environment.

The process of recycling glass for construction has been effective as well. It is ground down and referred to as glassphalt. So far the reviews of this type of material have been very good. It is likely that it will start to show up in more types of construction projects in the near future.

In many areas laws were passed that require consumers that purchase carbonated drinks to pay an extra five cents for each container. Being required to pay a little extra for soda pop encourages people to bring their bottles to the recycling company where they will get their deposit back as a refund. By looking on the bottom of the beverage bottle you can see if you will get a refund for your soda bottles, because the states abbreviations are printed on the bottles.

When recycling glass for a curbside or private glass recycling company you need to recycle in containers that are provided by the companies. When you recycle glass there is always a chance the glass will get broken, so the special containers are for your safety and the safety for the glass recycling handlers.

You can find computers almost everywhere you look these days. Have you ever wondered what what happens to them when they stop functioning? Too many of them end up at dumps taking up space. They aren’t biodegradable so they are just going to sit there. The concept of computer recycling is one that has been introduced for that reason. These efforts began in 1994 however it does not seem to have caught on yet as too many individuals and business owners don’t know enough about it.

Most people know that you can recycle paper, plastic and metal and glass.. However, computer recycling is another way residents can have a positive effect on the world around them. After all, technology changes so quickly that it only stands to reason that lots of computers and similar types of equipment are ending up in landfills with no way to biodegrade. Computer recycling is becoming increasingly easy to do.

Because computers contain toxins and other harmful metals that do not belong in a landfill or garbage dump, recycling your old computer is essential. Like so many other kinds of used materials, in the right hands and properly disposed of, your computer can actually be used for useful and safe products in its next life.

Donate that Old Computer

{One of the best ways to really help out is to donate your computer to someplace that needs them. You may not think it is worth anything but it really may be.Although you may not think your old computer is worth anything, there are places that can make good use of them.} Many colleges have extensive programs in computer programming and repair. By offering to donate your old computer to them students can take them apart and see what they need in order to function. It is a great way for them to get more hands on training.

Non-profit organizations can often find a use for your old computer. They can get someone to repair it and then donate it to someone who really needs it. In many instances computers still work that people don’t want any more. They have simply upgraded to a more advanced model and want to get their old one out of the way. By donating your old computer you can even get a tax deduction for such offers.

Recycling Computer Parts

If you cannot donate your old computer, the first resource to check about computer recycling is the manufacturer of your machine. As the recycling movement broadens, many technology companies are making the decision to offer cheap or free recycling to their customers. Of course, it is beneficial to the environment, but also gives the company name a little boost as well.

Another option is to go to your phone book or online resources and look for recycling centers in your area. Even if they don’t recycle computers themselves, there is a good possibility the staff knows of reliable places that do. Be sure to ask all of the important questions about their policies. You will want to know how the data on your old system will be destroyed and what happens to the computer materials during and after deconstruction. If the recylcing center does not wipe the data from your computer, you can contact computer repair shop and ask them how to handle this. For a very small fee most of them will remove the data so you don’t have to worry. In many instances though if you tell them you are going to be donating the computer they will take care of this matter for you at no charge.

Some districts do not allow you to place old computers and monitors out in the trash. If you don’t want to hang on to them you need to find another alternative. Contact a few organizations in your area, such as your local school board or college to find out who can benefit from such electronic items. Do your best to find a place for your old computer other than the dump.

Imagine floating above the earth in a space shuttle and looking down at Mother Earth. As you are looking down you see some of the wonderful things built by humans on this earth, such as the Pyramids. Unfortunately, there is also one thing that can be seen from space that the people of this planet should not be proud of – the landfill in Staten Island, NY. Perhaps after viewing this from above it would encourage people to recycle!

There are huge volumes of materials that people all over the world use each day. When we just toss it away in the garbage it has to go somewhere, usually to a landfill. These take up very large areas and it is becoming more difficult to figure out Where will we ever put all of it. There is also the question of the long term effects it will have on the Earth later on. One way to reduce this though is to recycle what we can. That means to use it again in another form.

There are many different things that can be recycled. Some of the major ones are:
Plastic
Glass
Metal
Paper
Rubber

You can save cans from soda and recycle them for the aluminum. Metal scraps from cars and other types of building and welding can be melted down and used again. We go through volumes of paper but it can be recycled as well. Rubber, the main source of it as waste comes from tires for vehicles, can be recycled as well to make new tires. Glass and plastic can also be recycled. All of these efforts really make a huge dent in the amount of it that ends up in landfills to be buried.

If people begin to recycle there are many benefits to the planet, such as cleaner water for drinking and bathing, and healthier plants and animals. It’s estimated that each year well over one million sea mammals, turtles, and sea birds are killed from litter. Sometimes this includes endangered species, and it could all be avoided if we decided to recycle!

Those unfamiliar with the recycling program may be wondering what they can and cannot recycle! You can recycle glass bottles and jars, aluminum, cardboard, paper bags, newspapers, metal cans, frozen food boxes, empty aerosol cans, and much more. You cannot recycle Styrofoam packaging, sneakers, toxic product containers, and ceramics. Check with your local recycle plant to see exactly what they can handle and how to get it to them.

Large items can also be recycled, such as scrap metal from cars, siding, and window/door frames. In addition to being able to recycle these items because it is environmentally friendly, scrap yards are currently paying top prices for aluminum, copper, brass, and other such metals. Loading up a truck with scrap metal to recycle at the local scrap yard could make one a hefty profit as well as help keep the planet a little bit cleaner!

While some cities, schools, and businesses already recycle regularly, it is always a great idea to encourage those in your local area to recycle. A great way to let local lawmakers know that many people are interested in helping in this process are petitions. It can be encouraged not only to recycle the waste of that individual town or business, but also to help by incorporating the use of recycled papers and other materials into their business methods. The more towns and businesses hear that their citizens, employees, or costumers value their recycling efforts the more likely they are to begin to recycle on a daily basis.

On a smaller level, beginning to help by recycling in at home is also a great idea. Every little bit helps. Collect old newspapers, egg cartons, and magazines instead of throwing them out each week and donate them to schools for art projects. Old clothing can always be donated to local charities instead of creating more waste in landfills, as well as old furniture. If old clothing and blankets are not in good condition, local animal shelters are always in need of these items for rags or pet bedding.

If you were to take one load per week of such items to be recycled, just think the difference it would make overall. Many schools teach students about recycling and they are happy to come home and implement what they have learned. Be willing to modify your behaviors in order to help them accomplish some great ways to recycle.

Remember, before polluting the earth more than it already is, there is one thing to do: recycle! To learn more about recycling

We live in a throw-away society

We’re wasteful. Not just on an individual level, but on a global scale. Our lifestyle is simply unsustainable in terms of the world’s resources we consume.

The subject of unnecessary waste in our society came sharply into focus for my wife and me over the last couple of years due to numerous trips to take garbage to the county dump.

When renovating our cabin we regularly took construction scrap to the dump (along with our wet garbage). We began to notice a considerable number of perfectly good items that had been thrown out. After observing this for a while (and rescuing numerous perfectly good items along the way), we started to ask, “What can we do about it?”

We started changing our lifestyle to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Although we may think we can’t make a difference individually, small steps taken on an individual level can and do make a difference. We must each do our own small part to minimize the waste and excess consumption in our society. Change is possible… indeed, it’s absolutely necessary.

One of the most challenging aspects of doing this is the constant bombardment from the media… the non-stop stream of powerful advertising attempting to convince us that we need the latest and greatest gadgets, toys, electronics, cars, and on and on. It’s a powerful and extremely effective influence.

And it seems that, unfortunately, a lot of people are too lazy and/or simply don’t think about the fact that something that they are throwing away could be used and appreciated by someone else. Nor do they think about the landfill being taken up by perfectly good and useful items.

Our dump experience spawned the idea of a series of short video vignettes that would highlight this sad situation. Yes, it’s a serious topic, but we wanted to have a little fun with it in order to highlight the number of perfectly good items that we saw at the dump every week. Thus was born “Adventures with Fitzgerald the Dump Truck”. The episodes can be seen on the Rustic Lodge Lifestyle home page.

What can you do?

Are you concerned about unnecessary consumerism and the corresponding waste? If so consider taking some of the following steps:

Turn off

Break free of the power of commercials by limiting your exposure to them… and if you have children, this is even more important. Setting the right example becomes paramount in teaching the next generation that it is not necessary to have the newest, most recent model of everything!

Teach them that happiness does not come from a store! We limit our exposure to the onslaught of commercial messages. We rarely watch TV, we listen to commercial-free radio, and have limited the number of subscriptions to magazines that come to the house.

Consequently we are blissfully unaware of so much of the product marketing and thus are not even tempted to rush out to buy this or that “must have” gizmo. We don’t have a TV at our country lodge, so when the grandchildren visit, they are not even tempted to watch… it just isn’t part of the “lodge experience”.

Take a long hard look

What are you throwing away? Get in the habit of looking critically at all of your household waste. Is it really garbage? Can it be used by others? Can you compost your wet garbage? Are you recycling everything that is possible to recycle? We have two or three charities that call us regularly to ask if we have any donations they can pick up. Some of them let us know we can call them any time for an additional pickup of clothing and household items. Check for charities that offer this service in your area.

Taking this simple step would see items such as stuffed toys (we’ve seen full boxes of perfectly good ones at the dump - some brand new with the tags still on), other toys, bikes, folding chairs, lamps, tables, furniture, and much more, put to good use.

Episode one of the “Fitzgerald” series highlights many of the items that we rescued from the dump. Other episodes show many perfectly good items that had been thrown away, but which we personally didn’t take.

Challenge each other

Families can get together and set up challenges to minimize waste. At the office, organize a waste awareness day. Get your boss involved… or if you are the boss, you set the tone. Even neighborhoods can activate to increase awareness.

These are just a few suggestions to start the creative juices flowing. Each one of us must start taking individual responsibility to reduce the resource footprint on our fragile planet. Reducing our personal waste by limiting unnecessary consumerism, and through reuse and recycling are important actions we must all take.

Lots of people actually already have basic knowledge about solar energy. Discussing about solar energy will be near to discuss how the sun can produce substitute energy. Actually, lots of people have used the sun’s power to warmth water and air for a variety of energy resources. Furthermore, many people switch to solar energy since it’s the cleanest and most viable form of renewable energy.

Solar energy captures the sun’s rays by using photovoltaic cell that changes the energy into electricity in order to supply electrical energy. Actually, electrical energy can be converted to the type 120-volt alternating current even though the electricity produced is only 12-volt direct current.

Generally, power converter is used to wielding this energy by most household electrical appliances. In addition, the number appliances that operate on 120-vot direct current are increasing these days. They do work with solar energy although most of them were designed for portable use by being plugged into a vehicles 12-volt outlet.

Business or homes can safe the costs of energy by using the solar energy. Since the present crop of solar cells, the grouping of photovoltaic cells that change the energy into electricity only operates at about 15-percent efficiency, so many of them are need that it’s expensive to install enough of them to give the power needs.

Return on Investment Provides Inexpensive Electricity

Even though the present high initial cost, once a facility has been improved to solar energy they can use far less power from the utility grid. The more power that is changed from the sun the less electricity is required, putting a significant dent in the electric bills. It’s estimated that the initial cost of converting an regular home to solar energy will be recouped in about 15 to 18 years.

During that time, electric bills will be much lower and once the cost has been recovered, the payoff can be implausible. The investment is considered worthwhile with most of the components needed to activate a home on solar energy having a warranted life of 20 years. Though, not all appliances, such as electric heaters and those that use a large amount of power for operation, may still require more than the sun for their use.

Several homes that have moved to solar energy remain connected to the power grid. It generally happens for the times that the sun is not shining strong enough. The power grid is used to power the solar cells as well as to have sufficient electric to power some of the more energy-hungry devices in the house.

Solar energy will help to obtain substitute energy that last very long. To get more information, you can explore this useful site about solar energy.

The Benefits of Solar Power

The sun produces large amounts of heat that are transmitted down to the earth’s surface. When the sun’s rays reach the earth the intensity of the heat directly from the sun is not as hot because some of the heat is rerouted before it reaches the earth’s atmosphere. When the sun is hot and it is summer time we think that it couldn’t get very much hotter as the mid day sun makes your run for shade, but it can get hotter if it wasn’t rerouted.

Solar power can be hot enough to power machinery and that is exactly what was discovered over one hundred years ago when a man working on some equipment wondered if steam from the heat of the day could be used to power machinery. He was correct and thus began a new form of production, heat and electricity. Today solar power is being used all across the world. The solar power is being concentrated into a solar source where the heat is used in a variety of ways. We still rely on our way of heating and powering our homes but in the future it may all be powered by the sun. It is cost effective to use home solar power as the only expense you have is in your solar source.

In order to use a solar power system you will need to have something that can attract the sun and allow the heat to be concentrated where it can stay warm for a long period of time. This is fairly easy when you consider all the knowledge and resources that we already have access to. When you use solar power for heating and power electricity you cannot go wrong.

Solar power is entrusted in space shuttles as they know that this will help produce the most efficient energy with the least amount of complications. The solar panels are faced toward the sun at all times in order to be able to power the shuttle efficiently. There are fewer problems from solar power than with other methods. Even though there are days that there are clouds in the sky and rain, snow or other weather, it is still possible to produce enough heat in your solar source to create enough energy to last until the sun can come back down. Solar power is in our future we need to be ready for it. Right now solar power is only being used by those who are more aware and worried about our earth’s atmosphere when it is a concern that we should all be worried about.

We can learn a lot from the past and the way that solar power was used. Every minute of the sunlight was used doing everything that needed done because after the sun went down there was no more light. I don’t think we could do that now. Solar power panels have so many benefits for us that we don’t realize all of them and how it is more efficient to use the solar power than other ways.

Click Here To Learn How To Build Your Own Solar Energy System. As an ordinary person who lives according to what the day brings, have you ever thought about how to conserve solar energy? Do you even care? You may think you are an ordinary worker, or a simple wife or mother. Should you even care about such things? The answer is yes.

You must bear in mind that you are part of a whole spectrum of nature. Whatever you do will affect all the things around you. Everything must be conserved, including solar energy. Here are some suggestions to throw in your little efforts to achieve this goal.

1. Plant trees. Nature works wonders. Every element around us affects everything else. By planting trees, you will be able to maximize the energy coming from the sun. This will be directed to help the plants grow and produce harvests. With healthy plants and trees rooted to the soil, the soil will be firm. This will be able to hold its structure even in times of natural disasters.

2. Limit your use of the energy coming from the sun. With today’s innovations, there are lots of things that are being developed to use solar energy as a power source. The source may be free. But to be able to turn it to such power source, there are things that are utilized for this reason. If you will abuse the use of such technology, the crash of the materials used to put this up will be fast. This will take a toll on you especially if you rely a lot on this advancement.

3. Teach kids about the importance of solar energy. You can gain knowledge through research and through your everyday interaction with other people about this thing called the solar energy. You must tell your kids about its importance, they must be educated about it at an early age. They are the future of the nation. What you teach them now will be instilled to them until they grow old. At such a young age, they must know about how they can contribute to conserve energy.

4. Take good care of nature. This is the most important thing that you can do to help advance such cause. The sun can cause damage to people and nature if people won’t do the necessary steps to care for nature in the first place. There are lots of things that you get from the environment. It wouldn’t hurt to look back every now and then and see what you can do to give back to what it has already given to you.

The idea here is that everything in this life must be conserved. You cannot abuse the power that you posses to gain so much without even thinking how your actions affect the world around you. It is all right to go with the flow of the continuing advancement of the technology. Always be sure to cehck out option for your home with cheapest house insurance quotes online.

Look at the options available to you nowadays with regards to solar energy. This can be used to power homes and vehicles (mkae sure to look at free automobile insurance quote first). This can give light, heat water and cook your food. This can give you satellite television and phones for supreme entertainment and communications enjoyment. This can give you luxuries like spas and warm water at pools.

You must learn everything on how to conserve solar energy so that you can do your part in making sure that such resource will be available as long as you live.

Click Here To Learn How To Build Your Own Renewable Energy Power System. You can’t help but get into net metering when you decide to invest in solar energy because you sometimes consume more or less than what you actually generate. When you consume less energy, your electric meter spins backward, if you use more then it goes forward.

Net metering is simply a special metering and billing agreement between you and the electric service provider. You are eligible for this if you reside in a residential area and generate some form of energy using solar, wind energy or a combination of both. It also has to be located on your premises and connected to the grid.

For this to work, you need to have a meter capable of moving in both directions. Most meters these days can do that but if your provider wants to use two meters, they will have to pay for it. However, if you enter into a time of use billing agreement, you will have to be one to buy the unit.

The net metering agreement works by letting you use the electricity you generate first before you use what you normally get from your electric service provider. Your meter should show the net which is measured as the difference between the electricity you purchased and what you actually purchased.

The benefit of the net metering system is that it allows you to store electricity when you are not there and then use it the moment you get home. Since there is a law that expands net metering, you can take advantage of it by generating electricity during peak hours and then using it during off peak periods.

Another benefit is the fact that you only pay the net electricity that you use. If you consume below the baseline, you pay less and more if you go over it. If what you use offsets what you normally get from a provider, then you will most likely pay a lower rate.

Since you entered into an agreement with your provider, you will still be billed monthly. This will state the amount of power you generated and the amount you actually consumed. On the anniversary of your agreement, you will be billed for the previous 12 months but you can also request for this on a monthly basis. Keep in mind that you will not be paid for the excess generation of electricity in a given year although some do.

If you want to use solar energy, you have to contact your electric service provider and ask if they offer net metering (besure to look at free house insurance quotes online to see how this will affect your rates). When the papers are drawn up, remember that they cannot require you to pay for any meters beyond the bi-directional meter. They cannot conduct any tests or impose any requirements if it meets existing national standards for grid-interconnected systems. Lastly, you don’t have to buy additional insurance or buy power from any of their affiliates.

Net metering is a policy and also an incentive when you decide to use solar energy. This is because you reduce the number of kilowatts used by your electric service provider which in turn decreases the emissions of carbon dioxide into the air.

If you happen to live in either New Jersey or Colorado, consider yourself lucky since they have the best net metering policies in the US. In fact not all states have such a policy in place for people who decide to use solar energy. Just be sure to look into the insurance implications of such schemes with quick insurance quotes.

Click Here To Learn How To Build Your Own Solar Energy System. Between you and me, we know that solar energy is a good renewable energy resource and that we should start to utilize it more especially when the Earth’s fossil fuel reserves are slowly dwindling and will run out in 30 to 50 years. We better look at the various alternative energies and begin a fast tracking of development to hasten our independence on non-renewable fossil fuels. And solar energy is as good as any other alternative energy resource out there. However, several arguments against solar energy have been raised through the years. But probably the most convincing argument is the high costs of solar energy utilization.

The problem with solar energy is that you can only harness it during the daytime. And even when the sun is up, the sunlight will be interrupted by occasional cloud covers, rains, fog, and even smog. So in order to harness the sun’s energy we need equipment that can get as much solar power as possible at a given time and we need some way of storing that energy so we can use them without ay interruptions. Right now you can barely run a car on one, but you can see about free car insurance quote.

We do have the technology to harness the sun’s energy, convert it into usable electricity, and store them for future use. And that technology itself is the primary reason why solar power has not caught on even today. The process of making solar panels as well as the technology for storing that harnessed power remains to be quite expensive.

The good thing about this fact today is that due to the recent increase in the costs of fuel and gas, solar power is no longer a far fetched alternative. The gap between the costs has gone down considerably and hopefully in the near future, the costs of solar energy production will be quite competitive.

Furthermore, the costs of photovoltaic cells are indeed quite expensive that contemporary oil and gas equipment. But one of the flaws of the argument of costs is that people tend to limit their perspective of solar energy as to only referring to photovoltaic cells. There are other means of harnessing solar energy and not all of them are as expensive as PV cell manufacturing.

One way of getting the sun’s energy and converting it into usable electricity is the concept of solar thermal plants. In solar thermal technology, various solar collectors are utilized to generate heat which can be applied from the simplest heating and ventilation of houses to the production of massive amounts of electricity. The use of mirrors or lenses to reflect sunlight to towers equipped with liquids that heat up and produce steam. The steam then turns turbines which in turn generates the electricity needed.

The process adds another step compared to photovoltaics which converts solar energy directly into electricity. Nevertheless, solar thermal systems of power production is cheaper that the production of PV cells. For a larger consumer market, it seems that solar thermal energy is the way to go.

Regardless, the point here really is to emphasize that solar energy has more to offer. The cost of production is a valid argument against solar energy but still there are ways around it. Costs can be minimized by using other techniques of harnessing solar energy or future developments in the field of science and technology will produce products that are more cost efficient that what are available today. In the mean time you can save money for your house with free homeowner insurance quote.
